Last weekend, Jon & Vinny’s restaurant hosted the ultimate pizza party with some of the best pizza makers in the country. Jumpstarting Philadelphia chef Marc Vetri’s book tour, the party was thrown to promote his new cookbook, “Mastering Pizza.” James Beard award winner Chris Bianco from Pizzeria Bianco in Phoenix, Arizona and Anthony Mangieri from Una Pizza Napoletana joined chef Vetri as all three chefs served his own personal style of pizza. Hand-selected wines from helen’s wines (a boutique wine store inside the restaurant run by beverage director Helen Johannesen) flowed endlessly all night in custom-branded cups provided by yours truly.
Set in the back patio of Jon & Vinny’s, complete with red-checkered tablecloths and green turf, the event was a full-on celebration of the simplicity and pure goodness of pizza. Celebrities, press, and food enthusiasts gathered for bottomless pizzas made on site, drinks, appetizers, and desserts galore while grooving to a lively hip hop set. The scene was perfect - fun and casual on a warm summer day and reminiscent of a friend’s backyard tailgate or BBQ.
